Photos from the Blue Angels Friday practice for the 2010 Cleveland National Air Show. The Friday before the air show is traditionally “media day” where just about all performers fly for local and national media that are covering the air show. In usual Cleveland style, the weather started off gloomy, changed to rainy, heavy rainy, windy and rain, and thankfully settled into windy and sunny in the afternoon. The weather was not the only story of the day .  .  .

Blue Angel #4 encountered a stuck tail hook and flew nearly the entire demo with the tail hook deployed. Before breaking to land, Boss (Blue Angel #1) instructed #4 to land last due to the problem. #4 landed without incident and the Blue Angels maintenance crew met the F/A-18 half way down the runway to quickly fix the issue.

The rest of the Blue Angels waited for #4 to rejoin them at the west end of the runway before taxiing to park.

The tail hook was deployed during the Dirty Diamond maneuver, it was a unique sight seeing a Blue Angel F/A-18 perform with a deployed tail hook.

The rest of the media day photos will follow in another post shortly.

Enjoy !
