Was lucky enough to be included on a media ride during A Gathering of Eagles XV Air Show on board the B-17G SuperFortress “Yankee Lady” based out of Yankee Air Museum in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Yankee Air also maintains and flys a C-47 Sktrain (photos in a future post) and a B-25. You can visit the link above for information on where the Yankee Lady will be next so you too can hop a ride in this classic bird!

A video of the ride is at the end of the post.

The ride was amazing. It was so exciting taxiing to the end of the runway, waiting for the props to reach full throttle then running down the runway in this amazing bomber. According to my watch the flight lasted 30 minutes, but it seemed like 5 minutes. It was just that exciting!

I will say, during the last minutes of flight my thoughts wandered to all those brave souls who boarded a similar B-17 during the war and never made it home. It was a eerie feeling sitting there in the tail looking at the turret, the machine guns and thinking of the what this aircraft had seen, what the B-17 and her crews meant, felt, and sacrificed in the war.
